Training for SAWKR 2023

Clockwork’s women’s crew were busy with sailing training sessions twice weekly in the month leading up to the October long weekend and the South Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta. In only its second year, SAWKR is already a significant national sailing event, promoting women's participation and excellence in our sport. SAWKR gathers women sailors from various backgrounds and skill levels, experienced sailors and newcomers, to compete in a series of keelboat races featuring a range of keelboat classes.

The Regatta creates an inclusive and empowering environment for women in sailing., and SAWKR committee Mary Ann Harvey (Clockwork women’s skipper) goes the extra mile to find places for individual sailors on boats, so that no women ever misses out on a race! The event allows participants to choose the level of competition that suits them best, in 2023 there were thirty one boats in six hotly contested races!

Three of Clockwork’s Sydney Hobart crew; co-skipper Mary Ann, bow person Kerry Parker, and Kirsty Hammet on strings, are three of the awesome women who created and manage this higHly-regarded long weekend regatta, already the second biggest event on the SA racing calendar.
